Milingimbi, also known as Yurrwi, is a vibrant Yolŋu community located on Milingimbi Island in the Arafura Sea, approximately 440 kilometers east of Darwin and 200 kilometers west of Nhulunbuy. Established in 1923 by the Methodist Overseas Mission, the community has a rich history and a population of around 1,097 residents, predominantly Indigenous. The island is renowned for its cultural heritage, with the Milingimbi Art and Culture Centre showcasing traditional artworks such as bark paintings, ceremonial poles, carvings, and weavings. Visitors can also explore World War II relics within the community. Access to Milingimbi requires a permit from the Northern Land Council.
