HMAS Sydney II Memorial

The HMAS Sydney II Memorial in Geraldton, Western Australia, honors the 645 crew members lost on November 19, 1941. Situated atop Mount Scott, the memorial features a circular design symbolizing eternity, approached via a ceremonial path. A semi-circular Wall of Remembrance, crafted from West Australian Black Granite, bears the names of the fallen sailors, representing the nation's embrace. The central Dome of Souls, adorned with 645 stainless-steel silver gulls, signifies the souls of the lost men. Additional elements include the Waiting Woman statue, the Stele, and the Pool of Remembrance, each embodying aspects of the tragedy and the enduring memory of the crew. The memorial is open daily, with guided tours available at 10:30 am.
