HM Prison Barwon, located at 1140 Bacchus Marsh Road, Lara, Victoria, is a maximum-security facility housing up to 416 male prisoners. Established in January 1990, it is Victoria's primary maximum-security prison for sentenced male inmates. The prison comprises various units, including high-security management units like Acacia and Melaleuca, and protection units such as Banksia and Hoya. Inmates participate in programs and industries like horticulture, metal fabrication, laundry, and general maintenance, aimed at skill development and rehabilitation. The facility also offers educational programs through a campus of the Gordon Institute of TAFE.
