Goonoo National Park, established in December 2005, spans 9,090 hectares approximately 35 km northeast of Dubbo. This tranquil haven is renowned for its rich birdlife, including the critically endangered regent honeyeater and the endangered mallee fowl. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching amidst majestic black cypress pine and casuarina woodlands. The park also features the scenic Rileys Dam picnic area, ideal for relaxation. From September to November, vibrant displays of donkey orchids add to the park's natural beauty. Please note, there is no drinking water available; visitors should bring their own supplies. Access involves gravel roads; drive cautiously, especially at dawn and dusk when animal activity is high.
