Angurugu, located on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, is a vibrant community with a population of approximately 1,021 residents. The primary languages spoken are Anindilyakwa and English. Established as a mission for the Church Mission Society, Angurugu is one of the three main indigenous settlements on the Groote Eylandt archipelago, alongside Milyakburra and Umbakumba. The community offers essential services, including the Angurugu School, which provides education from early years to senior years, focusing on attendance, student achievement in numeracy and literacy, and pathways to employment.
