Located approximately 500 meters north of Timber Creek in the Northern Territory, the Bradshaw Field Training Area (BFTA) spans over 8,700 square kilometers, making it one of the largest live-fire training sites globally. Established in 1996 on the former Bradshaw Station cattle property, BFTA serves as a pivotal training ground for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the United States Marine Corps. The area facilitates a wide range of military exercises, including infantry and armored maneuvers, ground and air live-firing, and bombing operations. In 2024, significant upgrades to the Nackeroo Airstrip within BFTA enhanced its capacity to accommodate large transport aircraft, such as the C-17A Globemaster and MV-22 Osprey, thereby bolstering joint training capabilities. The facility also maintains a collaborative relationship with the local Indigenous communities, ensuring the protection of sacred sites and fostering cultural exchange.
