The aerodrome features a 1,732-meter sealed runway and a 1,200-meter clay runway, accommodating various aircraft types. During the annual Birdsville Races in September, the aerodrome hosts up to 100 light aircraft, with aviators permitted to camp under their wings. Aviation fuel services, including Avgas and Jet A1, are available upon request through Birdsville Aviation Fuel. The aerodrome is managed by the Diamantina Shire Council, ensuring its role as a key regional hub.
