Atkinson Dam, completed in 1970, is an un-gated earth-fill embankment dam located near Lowood in South East Queensland. It impounds Lake Atkinson, a 555-hectare reservoir with a full supply volume of 30,401 megalitres, primarily serving the Lower Lockyer Valley Water Supply Scheme for irrigation. The dam's 2,082-meter-long wall stands 9 meters high, and its catchment area spans 32.72 square kilometers. Lake Atkinson offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, water skiing, and swimming. The Day Use Area provides facilities such as picnic tables, BBQs, and a boat ramp. Dogs on leashes are permitted in the Day Use Area. The lake is open to the public seven days a week, with operating hours from 5:30 am to 6:30 pm (September – April) and 6:00 am to 5:30 pm (May – August).
