Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building - The University of Adelaide

The Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences (AHMS) building, completed in 2017, is a state-of-the-art facility that brings together over 1,700 students and 600 health researchers in a vibrant and innovative environment. Located in the heart of Adelaide's BioMed City, alongside the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), the AHMS building is designed to transform the way students learn and prepare future healthcare leaders for professional practice. The building houses the Adelaide Medical School, Adelaide Dental School, Adelaide Nursing School, School of Public Health, and the Robinson Research Institute. It features four floors of modern research laboratories, three lecture theatres, 24 advanced simulation suites, and the Adelaide Dental Hospital, where students work alongside professional dentists to deliver oral health services to the community. Designed by Lyons Architects, the AHMS building promotes collaboration between clinicians, staff, and students, thanks to a series of carefully designed floor plans throughout the 13-storey building. The research laboratories are designed so that research teams have access to labs, write-up areas, and communal supporting facilities on each of the research floors (Levels 5 to 9). Multimodal teaching areas provide flexibility for staff and students to vary how and where they interact, while a series of balcony terraces provide breakout spaces for informal gatherings. The AHMS building is situated in the heart of the Adelaide BioMed City on North Terrace, alongside the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). Its central location and shared facilities inspire collaboration between staff, researchers, and students across health disciplines.
