Kojonup Historical Society

The Kojonup Historical Society, located at 17 Spring Street, Kojonup, WA 6395, is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of the Kojonup district. The society manages three significant heritage sites: the Military Barracks, Elverd Cottage, and the Old Post Office. The Military Barracks, constructed in 1845 by the 51st British Regiment, stands as one of Western Australia's oldest buildings and now serves as a museum showcasing early European settlement artifacts. Elverd Cottage, built in 1854, is a rare example of a Pensioner Guard Cottage, reflecting domestic life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Old Post Office houses a collection of historic photographs and archival materials, offering insights into the area's past. Additionally, the society maintains a comprehensive collection of over 1,000 objects, including household items and farm machinery, as well as a vast array of early photographs and research materials. Visitors can explore these sites by appointment, with entry fees covering all three buildings and valid for one day.
