The Former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Dawson, South Australia, stands as a poignant testament to the area's ambitious past. Established in 1886, this Gothic-style church was designed by Father John Norton, an architect-turned-priest. Constructed from white freestone sourced approximately nine miles away, the church features a 46-foot by 24-foot structure with walls two feet thick and a belfry reaching 51 feet high. Despite its grandeur, the church ceased operations in 1969 due to the town's decline, leaving behind a solitary monument in the once-thriving farming community.
