Ro, Zak & Rock: The Heartbeat of Perth Party DJs Ro and Zak began their DJ journey in the early 2000s, initially spinning tracks in their lounge room. By the late 2000s, they were producing music for fashion shows and corporate events. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, their passion for DJing took a serious turn, responding to requests for house parties as people sought new ways to celebrate and connect. Perth Party DJs was born during these lockdown days, when government restrictions pushed people to seek alternative venues for social interactions and celebrations. Ro has graced some of Perth’s most iconic venues, including Optus Stadium, the Western Australia Art Gallery, C-Restaurant, various corporate events, private parties, weddings, pubs, and clubs. Perth Party DJs appeal to both adults and children, bringing their unique strengths in different genres and the ability to play B2B for a distinct vibe. Their 9-year-old son, Rock, is closely following in their footsteps, DJing energetic Fisher-style house sets and all the latest drum and bass. Rock adds a unique marketing appeal, having DJ’d at multiple children’s parties, Hyperfest Music Festival, NYE at C Restaurant in Perth CBD, Fiona Stanley Hospital’s annual fundraiser, and various pubs and restaurants around town. Rock has also DJ’d at Scarborough Sunset Markets, weddings, boat parties, and more, with tracks uploaded to SoundCloud and videos on YouTube. Perth Party DJs can play any style of music and adapt to the event, dressing to suit the occasion – with glamour and cocktail attire as their default. They specialize in house, drum and bass, pop, breaks, rap, hip hop, and R&B. Though relatively new on the Perth music scene, Ro and Zak’s love affair with music spans decades. Starting with promotional work in clubs and pubs in the late ’90s, their international modeling careers exposed them to mega clubs and festivals worldwide. Whenever back in Perth, they would frequent the iconic Ambar for nights of break beats and never miss Boomtick’s Breakfest at Belvoir Amphitheatre every Boxing Day. While they enjoy most music genres, electronica has always been a favourite, expanding to include house and drum and bass. Regulars at all of Perth’s major breaks and DNB festivals, they stay up-to-date with the latest sounds and artists. Ro, a self-confessed bass addict, lives by the motto: “the bigger the bass, the better.” Passionate about drum and bass, she seizes every opportunity to play her favourite style. “I’m a huge culprit of bass face, bopping my head, and moving to the music,” she says. Ro loves the dance floor as much as being behind the decks. “Music and dancing are my therapy. Vibing with strangers and friends on a dance floor or at a festival gives me hope for the human race. Out on the dance floor, it doesn’t matter where you come from or what you look like – we’re all there to disconnect from our manic lives and reconnect with ourselves and others. The energy is electric when you’re with a crowd that resonates with the music.” Falling in love with trance anthems of the late ’90s, Ro frequented Northbridge’s Church and Rise and worked for Redheads. Known affectionately as Roller Girl, from her time roller-skating around Northbridge promoting Redheads nightclub, she has maintained many industry contacts and enjoys reconnecting with old friends.
