I am a Learning Disability Nurse, Autism Specialist Practitioner, Trainer, Speaker and Entrepreneur. I work in health and social care settings and provide consultation, assessment and training to support people with a learning disability and/or autism and those who love them or work for and alongside them. I am renowned for taking services from requiring improvement to outstanding. Learning Disability Nurses are the only professionals who are specifically trained to work with people who have learning disabilities. This places Learning Disability Nurses in a unique position and this uniqueness drives me to provide person centred care to enhance the health and well-being needs of people with learning disabilities. I am trained to assess if a person is autistic and I have completed a Masters in the Arts to become an Autism Specialist Practitioner. I have been working professionally with individuals with a learning disability and/or autism since 2015 but my personal experience as the sibling of an individual with a learning disability and autism has meant that I have been working in this area for the majority of my life. Drawing from my personal experience as the sibling of an individual with a learning disability and autism, I celebrate the vibrant magic and joy that individuals bring to the world and I inspire others to embrace a more inclusive perspective. I dedicate my efforts to dismantling stereotypes and debunking myths surrounding learning disabilities and autism. I actively engage with diverse cultural groups, fostering awareness and understanding through thoughtful dialogue and education. My work is driven by the belief that knowledge and empathy are powerful tools to safeguard individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism from harmful and dehumanizing practices often perpetuated by misinformation and misconceptions. I am an award-winning practitioner, recognised for my outstanding leadership which led to me becoming the recipient of the 2024 GEM Award at RMCH. This prestigious accolade highlights my significant contribution to research and recognises my dedication to fostering caring cultures. I have endured many challenges in my career and I approach each challenge with gratitude as I recognises that each challenge presents me with opportunities for growth and development. A natural problem-solver, I approach challenges with a proactive mindset, quickly transitioning from discussing issues to cultivating solutions. This solution-oriented approach defines my work and inspires meaningful change.
