Mount Sugarloaf, standing at 412 meters, offers panoramic views of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Cessnock, and Maitland. Accessible via Mount Sugarloaf Road in West Wallsend, it features several walking tracks ranging from 275 meters to 1.6 kilometers, leading to picnic areas, lookouts, and the summit. The summit trail is a 500-meter return hike, providing 360-degree vistas. Facilities include picnic areas, BBQs, and parking. The mountain also hosts television and radio transmitters serving the Hunter Region. Historically significant to the Awabakal people, it was known as Warrawelong, serving as a teaching place and site for sacred ceremonies.
