Yelarbon, a rural town in south-central Queensland, lies along the Dumaresq River near the New South Wales border. Situated on the Cunningham Highway between Goondiwindi and Inglewood, it serves as a gateway to the region's agricultural and natural attractions. The town's name, derived from the Bigambul language, translates to "water lilies growing in a lagoon." Historically, Yelarbon was the first place in Queensland to cultivate tobacco commercially. Today, it is known for its cattle and sheep farming, as well as cereal crop production. Recreational activities include fishing in the Dumaresq River, with Murray Cod being a sought-after catch. The town also features a war memorial and a Roll of Honour dedicated to those who served in both World Wars. Yelarbon's unique spinifex desert landscape adds to its distinctive charm.
