Venue

Walkley Heights, SA

Constructed in 1879, the Yatala Powder Magazine was designed to safely store explosives for nearby quarry operations. Its thick stone walls, internal timber lining, and perimeter guard walls provided robust protection against sparks and fire. A special lightning conductor and rubber floor mats further safeguarded the sensitive materials. Located on the northern side of Dry Creek, the magazine is accessible via the Dry Creek Linear Trail from Tower Court in Walkley Heights. This historic site offers a glimpse into the area's convict past and industrial heritage.
