Winkie is a tranquil locality in South Australia's Riverland region, approximately 11 km southwest of Berri and southeast of Barmera. Established as a town in 1953 and later redefined as a locality in 1998, Winkie is situated near the Murray River, which flows through Berri. The area was originally part of Cobdogla Station and was surveyed and channelled during 1911–13 as part of the Berri Irrigation Area. In the 1950s, plans to establish a residential township did not materialize. Today, Winkie is a peaceful community with a population of approximately 341 residents, offering a serene environment for its inhabitants.
