White Rocks Reserve, located on Schlapp Street in Broken Hill, is a significant historical site commemorating the only World War I attack on Australian soil. On January 1, 1915, two Afghan immigrants, Gool Mahomed and Mullah Abdullah, ambushed a picnic train bound for Silverton, resulting in four civilian fatalities. The attackers retreated to this quartz outcrop, where they were fatally wounded after a three-hour gun battle with police and volunteers. A replica of Mahomed's ice cream cart, used to conceal their weapons, stands at the site, offering visitors a poignant glimpse into this pivotal moment in Australian history.
