Western River Cove, located on Kangaroo Island's north coast, is a picturesque 200-meter-wide, north-facing cove accessible by car. The main beach features 160 meters of sandy shoreline backed by dunes extending 150 meters inland. A small river flows along the eastern side, and the beach is moderately steep with a narrow continuous bar. On the eastern side, a 50-meter-long boulder beach is bordered by rock platforms and bedrock reefs. The area offers excellent fishing opportunities off the rocks around all three beaches. Facilities include a car park, picnic area, and a footbridge crossing the creek to the dunes. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with fees ranging from $22.50 to $35.00 per night. The cove is ideal for picnics, swimming, fishing, snorkeling, and bushwalking. Wildlife sightings, including koalas, kangaroos, sea lions, and seals, are common. The best time to visit is during the summer months (December to February), although the spot can be enjoyed year-round due to the mild and temperate climate conditions on Kangaroo Island.
