
Wambool Nature Reserve, established in 1987, spans 194 hectares near Bathurst, NSW. Its unique geology transitions from granite to slates, shales, greywackes, and quartz, creating diverse habitats. The reserve features stunted gum trees, including Western Scribbly Gum, and a rich understory of rare flowering shrubs and terrestrial orchids. Wildlife includes ring-tailed and brush-tailed possums, sugar gliders, grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, echidnas, and various reptiles and insects. Two well-marked walking tracks, each approximately 30 minutes one way, offer opportunities for birdwatching, with over 50 species recorded. Access is via official walking tracks; pets and camping are not permitted.
