The Walgett Memorial Swimming Pool, established in the 1960s, has long served as a central hub for the Walgett community, offering a refreshing escape during the region's hot summers. In July 2023, the Walgett Shire Council decommissioned the pool due to significant maintenance challenges, including leaks and a failing filtration system, with repair costs estimated at over $1.7 million. Recognizing its importance, the NSW Government allocated $250,000 in June 2024 for planning and design work toward a new facility. The community eagerly anticipates the development of a modern aquatic center that will continue to foster social connections and provide a safe, enjoyable environment for all.
