Vaucluse House is a 19th-century Gothic-style mansion nestled within ten hectares of formal gardens and historic grounds in Sydney's eastern suburbs. Originally built in 1803, it was expanded by William Charles Wentworth, a key figure in Australia's history, who resided there with his family from 1827 to 1853 and again in 1861 to 1862. The estate includes the main house, kitchen wing, stables, and outbuildings, offering a glimpse into the social aspirations and lifestyles of the Wentworths and their servants. The interiors feature original Wentworth furnishings alongside early to mid-19th-century collections. The gardens and grounds have been restored to their 19th-century character, encompassing a pleasure garden, parkland, bushland, and beach frontage. Today, Vaucluse House stands as one of Sydney's few surviving 19th-century harbourside estates, providing visitors with a unique historical experience.
