Umpherston Sinkhole, also known as the Sunken Garden, is a captivating natural attraction in Mount Gambier, South Australia. Formed when a limestone cave collapsed, it was transformed into a lush garden by James Umpherston in 1886. Visitors can descend into the sinkhole to explore terraced gardens adorned with hanging vines, hydrangeas, and tree ferns. Amenities include picnic areas with free barbecues, a kiosk offering refreshments and souvenirs, and public toilets. The site is open daily from dawn to dusk, with a resident colony of possums emerging at dusk, adding to the enchanting experience.
