Tyrendarra Indigenous Protected Area, located two kilometers north of Tyrendarra, is a significant cultural site for the Gunditjmara people. Established in 2003, this 248-hectare area features a complex of 18 stone wall dams, seven excavated channels, and numerous swampy depressions used for trapping and holding kooyang (eel). Visitors can explore raised pathways, boardwalks, and interpretive displays that highlight traditional housing, stone aquaculture sites, seasonal wetlands, and indigenous plants. Managed by the Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation, the site offers walking trails and cultural tours, providing insights into the ancient aquaculture systems and cultural practices of the Gunditjmara people.
