Turtle Bay Campground, located on Dirk Hartog Island's eastern coast, offers a secluded wilderness camping experience. Situated approximately 4 km east of Cape Inscription, this site is perched atop a cliff overlooking the eastern end of Turtle Bay, Australia's largest loggerhead turtle breeding colony. Access requires a steep track down to the beach, ideal for beach walks and swimming. The area is renowned for its pristine environment, diverse marine life, and historical significance, including the 1616 landing of Captain Dirk Hartog. As a designated wilderness area, Turtle Bay Campground has no facilities; campers must be self-sufficient, bringing all necessary supplies and removing all rubbish upon departure. Campfires are prohibited to protect the environment. To preserve the island's unique wildlife, including threatened species, visitors are advised to avoid driving between dusk and dawn, as many animals are active during these times. Camping fees apply and can be booked through the Dirk Hartog Island Eco Lodge.
