Tunkalilla Beach is a picturesque 5-kilometer stretch of sand nestled between steep grassy slopes, rising up to 200 meters above the shore. The beach is accessible via a car park located on the bluffs above its western end, though reaching the shoreline requires a steep descent. The surf zone averages 60 meters in width, with beach rips occurring every 250 meters to the west and several reef-controlled rips to the east. While the beach is popular among fishers, swimming is hazardous due to strong rips and rocky reefs. The area offers several secluded pocket beaches, each framed by the surrounding steep slopes.
