Established in 1893, Townsville Correctional Centre is Queensland's longest continually operating prison, located at 22 Dwyer Street, Stuart. The facility accommodates both high-security male and female prisoners, as well as low-security inmates in its adjacent farm complex. Notably, it houses a dedicated unit for mothers and babies, reflecting its commitment to diverse custodial needs. The centre also features a farm area approximately 2.4 km southeast, contributing to its self-sufficiency. In 2022, a Remembrance Memorial was unveiled to honor past officers who served at this historic site.
