Queens Domain, TAS

The Soldier's Memorial Avenue, located within Hobart's Queens Domain, is a poignant tribute to the 533 soldiers from the region who perished during World War I. Established in 1918 and 1919, the avenue features 533 individually named trees, including Himalayan, Atlas, and Blue Atlas Cedars, each commemorating a fallen soldier. An extension added in 1926 within the Cenotaph precinct further honors their memory. Over the years, the avenue has been meticulously restored, with the Hobart City Council replacing missing or damaged trees since 2008, and the Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue Inc. installing new plaques and plinths from 2005 to 2014. Today, the avenue stands as a serene and reflective space, inviting visitors to honor the sacrifices made by these soldiers.
