Located at 10 Macquarie Street, The Mint is a historic site in Sydney's central business district, comprising two significant structures: the Mint offices and the coining factory. Constructed between 1811 and 1816 as the southern wing of the General Hospital, the Mint offices are among the oldest surviving buildings in central Sydney and showcase early colonial architecture. In 1854, the site became the first branch of the Royal Mint outside London, established in response to the New South Wales gold rush. Today, The Mint serves as the headquarters for Museums of History NSW and houses the Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection. Visitors can explore the site's rich history, enjoy the on-site café, and access various facilities, including meeting rooms and event spaces. The Mint is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with free entry.
