The Leichhardt Tree, a majestic coolibah (Eucalyptus microtheca), stands proudly in Taroom's main street, Yaldwyn Street. Estimated to be over 300 years old, this historic tree was blazed by explorer Ludwig Leichhardt in 1844 during his journey from Jimbour to Port Essington. Although the original blaze is no longer visible, a plaque commemorates this significant event. The tree's impressive height and expansive canopy make it a notable landmark, contributing to Taroom's rich heritage and serving as a testament to early Australian exploration.
