Thargomindah, QLD

Leahy Historical House, constructed in 1885 from locally made mud bricks, stands as a testament to Thargomindah's rich heritage. Originally owned by the Thargomindah Newspaper Company, it was acquired by Sir Sidney Kidman in 1912. Kidman gifted the house to his manager, Jack 'Galloping Jack' Watts, enabling Kidman to join the Bulloo Divisional Board. In 1995, the Bulloo Shire Council purchased and restored the property, entrusting its care to the Thargomindah Historical Society. Now a museum, it showcases exhibits dedicated to John Leahy and the history of Thargomindah and surrounding stations. The house is open to the public from April through October.
