Tarranginnie is a rural district located approximately 12 kilometers west of Nhill in north-west Victoria. The name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word describing a man with sore feet. Established in the 1870s and 1880s, it was part of the Wimmera wheatland areas opened for farm selections. A village was surveyed in 1890, and the area was connected to the railway line to Serviceton and Adelaide in 1887. Over time, the population declined, and by 1948, the local schools had closed, with students bussed to Nhill. Today, Tarranginnie remains a quiet rural locality, reflecting its agricultural heritage.
