Tannum Sands, QLD

Tannum Sands Beach, located 30 km southeast of Gladstone, Queensland, is a picturesque coastal destination renowned for its pristine white sands and clear waters. The beach is divided into two sections by low tide rock flats: the northern half extends 800 meters between Canoe Point and Tannum Sands rock flats, while the southern half stretches 600 meters to the mouth of Wild Cattle Creek. The Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club, established in 1936, is situated 200 meters north of the creek mouth, ensuring a safe environment for beachgoers. The area offers ample parking along the beach, along with a caravan park and beachfront camping reserve. Visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming, surfing, and beachcombing, with the beach being partially protected from southerly waves by Rodds Peninsula, resulting in waves averaging only 0.5 meters. The tidal range can reach up to 6 meters, creating a dynamic landscape of high tide beaches and low tide sandbars. Swimmers are advised to be mindful of regular sweeps up the beach and to exercise caution near the mouth of Wild Cattle Creek, especially during falling tides when strong tidal currents flow seaward. The beach is also home to the Millennium Esplanade, a coastal foreshore area featuring individual pavilions, playgrounds, and picnic facilities, making it an ideal spot for families and visitors seeking a relaxing beachside experience.
