Silverton, SA

Explore the historic Talisker Mine Ruins, once South Australia's largest silver and lead mine. Established in 1862, the mine's Cornish miners extracted ore shipped to England. The adjacent township of Silverton supported up to 300 residents with amenities like a hotel, post office, and school. Today, an interpretive trail through the mine ruins and bushland offers a glimpse into 19th-century mining techniques. The walk takes about an hour for able walkers. Maps can be purchased from the Fleurieu Coast Visitor Centre.
