Steep Point, located within the proposed Edel Land National Park, is the westernmost point of mainland Australia. This remote area features 200-meter-high limestone cliffs along the western side of Edel Peninsula, complemented by sweeping white sand dunes and secluded beaches on the eastern side. Visitors can explore the Zuytdorp Cliffs, which stretch over 200 kilometers from Steep Point south to Kalbarri, and observe blowholes where waves create spectacular natural displays. The area is renowned for exceptional land-based fishing, with species like mackerel, trevally, and sailfish commonly caught off the cliffs. Access requires a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle or boat, with a 140 km unsealed road leading to the point. Camping is available at Shelter Bay, The Oven, and False Entrance, with Shelter Bay offering the best shelter from prevailing southerly winds. Facilities are limited to pit toilets, so visitors should bring sufficient water, food, and fuel. Pets and campfires are not permitted to preserve the natural environment.
