Nestled at the base of The Nut, the Stanley Burial Ground offers a serene glimpse into the town's rich history. Established in 1832, this historic cemetery overlooks Godfrey's Beach and Highfield House. Among its notable graves are those of colonial architect John Lee Archer, explorer Henry Hellyer, and surveyor James Gibson, who significantly contributed to the development of the Van Diemen's Land Company. The grounds are shaded by two Norfolk Island pines, providing a peaceful setting for reflection and exploration. Visitors are advised to tread carefully, as plovers' nests may be present.
