Nestled in the heart of Stanley, the Stanley Athenaeum and Public Room is a historic gem that has been serving the community since 1857. Originally established as a public meeting place during the gold rush era, it now houses a unique collection of over 4,000 volumes, including works from the 1820s to the 1970s. The Geoff Craig Local History Collection and community archives are available for research and reading. The venue also hosts regular exhibitions and serves as a hub for various community events, including social functions, fundraising events, and public meetings. Adjacent to the Athenaeum, the Stanley Soldiers Memorial Hall offers additional space for gatherings, accommodating up to 100 people. The venue is open on Fridays and the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with other times available by appointment.
