St John's Anglican Church, established in 1860, is the oldest remaining church building in Newcastle, Australia. Located at the corner of Darby, Parry, and Dawson Streets in Cooks Hill, the church is renowned for its Old Colonial Grecian Revival architecture, attributed to colonial architect Edmund Blacket. The church offers a variety of services, including a traditional Holy Communion service at 9:30 am and a contemporary family service, Alive@Five, at 5:00 pm on Sundays. The historic church hall, completed in 1857, is available for hire and features a commercial kitchen, tables, chairs, and an outdoor courtyard. The church grounds also host a playgroup on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 noon, providing a relaxed and informal environment for families.
