Southern Midlands Council

The Southern Midlands Council, located at 71 High Street in Oatlands, Tasmania, serves as the local government authority for the region. Established on April 2, 1993, through the merging of several municipalities, it encompasses a diverse area of approximately 2,561 square kilometers. The council administers a population of around 6,000 residents across various towns and localities, including Oatlands, Mangalore, Bagdad, and Kempton. The municipality is renowned for its rich heritage, featuring numerous 19th-century sandstone buildings and landmarks such as the Callington Mill, the only fully restored and working Lincolnshire wind-driven flour mill in the Southern Hemisphere. The council is dedicated to preserving and promoting the region's historical assets while fostering community development and services.
