South Middleback Ranges Mine (SIMEC)

The South Middleback Ranges Mine, situated approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Whyalla in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, is a significant iron ore mining operation. It encompasses several mining areas, including Iron Duke, Iron Duchess, and Iron Knight, collectively producing around 10 million tonnes of iron ore annually. The mine extracts both magnetite and hematite ores, which are processed at the Whyalla Steelworks and exported to international markets. The operation is integrated with the BHP Whyalla Tramway, facilitating efficient transportation of ore to the steelworks and port facilities.
