Perched atop Mount Woorut at 1,165 meters, Siding Spring Observatory is Australia's premier optical and infrared astronomical research facility. Located 27 kilometers west of Coonabarabran, it houses the nation's largest optical telescopes, including the 3.9-meter Anglo-Australian Telescope and the 2.3-meter Advanced Technology Telescope. Visitors can explore the AAT's Visitor Gallery, enjoy interactive exhibits, and participate in guided tours. The on-site café offers refreshments with panoramic views of the Warrumbungle National Park. Please note, the observatory is closed to the public at night and during severe weather conditions.
