Perched atop Mount Woorut at 1,165 meters, Siding Spring Observatory is Australia's premier optical and infrared astronomical research facility. Located 27 kilometers west of Coonabarabran, it houses the nation's largest optical telescopes, including the 3.9-meter Anglo-Australian Telescope and the 2.3-meter Advanced Technology Telescope.
