Established in 1884, the Shire's administration is headquartered at 30 Loch Street, Derby. The Shire offers a range of services, including town planning, health, waste management, and community facilities such as leisure centers, libraries, and parks. In April 2025, the Shire relocated its Administration Centre to the former Visitor Centre building, providing a centralized location for various services.
