Latrobe, TAS

Sherwood Hall, constructed between 1848 and 1850, is a distinctive wooden colonial residence in Latrobe, Tasmania. Built by pioneer Thomas Johnson and his wife, Dolly Dalrymple Briggs—the first known child of an Aboriginal and white union—the hall reflects their significant contributions to the region's history. In 1993, the hall was relocated to its current site on Bells Parade to preserve it from erosion along the Mersey River. Today, it offers visitors a glimpse into early Tasmanian life, showcasing period furnishings and artifacts. Open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and weekends from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, entry is by gold coin donation.
