The Egyptian Room at the Royal Arch Masonic Centre in Petersham, NSW, is a unique heritage-listed space that immerses visitors in ancient Egyptian art and symbolism. Originally constructed in 1927 within the Scottish Royal Arch Temple in College Street, Sydney, the room was re-erected in 1977 at its current location. Its centerpiece is a meticulously sculpted frieze depicting scenes from the Papyrus of Ani, an Egyptian funerary text dating from approximately 1450 BC. The frieze traces Ani's journey through the afterlife, featuring gods like Anubis and Osiris. Additional elements include a funerary stele from the 20th Dynasty and lotus-headed columns, all adorned with gold-leaf details. The room is open for public tours by arrangement, offering a captivating glimpse into ancient Egyptian culture.
