Rossbridge is a quaint town in Victoria's northwest, approximately 229 kilometers west of Melbourne. Established in the 1860s along the Ararat to coast road, it was named after Ross's Bridge over the Hopkins River, which itself was named after John Ross, a selector of the Mount William Plains pastoral run. By the 1870s, the town had developed a church, school, and several residences. The Ross Bridge Post Office operated from November 21, 1873, until its closure on March 2, 1962. The town's early history includes a tragic event on February 9, 1863, when four children perished in a house fire. Rossbridge Primary School #1069 opened on February 19, 1872, and closed on December 31, 1993.
