Designed by architect John Smith Murdoch, it exemplifies the Federation Free Style of architecture. The courthouse is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, reflecting its historical significance. The building features a prominent central curved vestibule with Ionic columns, flanked by rooms with double-hung windows and semi-circular fanlights. The roof is adorned with five tall chimneys and seven roof ventilators, characteristic of the style. The grounds include five bottle trees and other indigenous trees, enhancing its heritage value.
