Established in 1861 during the gold mining era, the area once boasted a population of 3,300 in 1859. Today, it is home to around 166 residents. The town is nestled in a valley, surrounded by bushland, and is named after the creek that runs around it, which is typically dry except during significant rainfall. Notable landmarks include the historic Reedy Creek Estate, with its 1850s homestead, and the former school building, now serving as the town hall.
