Venue

Dampier, WA

At the entrance to Dampier, the Red Dog Memorial Statue honors the legendary kelpie/cattle dog cross known as Red Dog. Born in Paraburdoo in 1971, Red Dog became a beloved figure across Western Australia's Pilbara region, traveling extensively and forming deep connections with the local community. The bronze statue, erected in 1980, stands on a 10-tonne iron ore rock from Mount Tom Price, facing the road out of town. An inscription reads: "RED DOG The Pilbara Wanderer Died November 21st 1979, erected by the many friends made during his travels." Visitors can stop at the small parking bay to view the statue and learn about Red Dog's remarkable journey.
