Established in 1888, Racecourse Sugar Mill is a pivotal component of Mackay Sugar Limited, Australia's second-largest sugar manufacturer. The mill processes approximately 1.7 million tonnes of sugarcane annually, producing around 400,000 tonnes of refined white sugar, primarily marketed under the CSR label. Adjacent to the mill, the Racecourse Refinery, operational since 1994, is Australia's largest and most advanced sugar refinery, with a capacity of up to 450,000 tonnes per annum. The refinery's strategic location near the mill and the Mackay Bulk Sugar Terminal optimizes efficiency and reduces transportation costs.
