Moffat Beach, QLD

The Queen of the Colonies Monument in Moffat Beach commemorates the 1863 shipwreck of the "Queen of the Colonies." In April 1863, a small boat carrying 13 passengers from the ship was cast ashore in stormy weather near Moffat Beach. They survived on shellfish and berries for 14 days before being rescued. One of the survivors carved the ship's name on a pandanus tree, leading to their rescue. A concrete memorial was erected on the site in 1963 to honor this event.
